Scholarships That Shape Welding's Future

The AWS Detroit Section develops future weld technicians in the Detroit, Michigan, area, by providing welding scholarships. Many companies have become scholarship patrons.

About Our Section Scholarships - Application Instruction, Online Application

We provide scholarships to students who are attending universities, community colleges, and trade schools.This year the AWS Detroit Section has awarded 37 welding scholarships totaling $60,000. This Scholarship program is of utmost importance to the Detroit Section and feedback and ideas from all concerned is greatly appreciated. Winners for 2017-2018.

Scholarship Night is generally in September. AWS Detroit section promotes the welding industry by investing in students who are attending in universities, community colleges, and trade schools. In September we are honoring students who received the scholarships at a AWS Detroit dinner meeting. RSVP at:

PRAXAIR Limited Scholarships- Application PDF

Praxair is a Fortune 250 company and the largest industrial gases company in North and South America. The company produces, sells and distributes atmospheric, process and specialty gases and high-performance surface coatings.Working together with AWS will help Praxair provide targeted support to welding and metal fabrication students as they prepare for rewarding careers in the industries and communities served by Praxair. Praxair is pleased to support the variety of scholarship opportunities offered by AWS.

The applicant must be a citizen of the United States and plan to attend an academic institution located within Section 11, click for area.

2016-2017 Scholarship Winners

On September 8, 2016, we honored students who received this year's scholarships with a ceremony at Schoolcraft College. Congratulations to the Detroit Section 2016-2017 scholarship winners!

Our Patrons

Our sincere thanks and gratitude go out to all of our patrons who provide the funding for our scholarships. These scholarships are used for associate's certificates in welding technology, as well as two-year programs for students pursing a bachelor of science in manufacturing technology.
